Leadership Development Success Story | Building Stronger Leaders | Emerge

Self-Awareness and Trust: The Foundation for Leaders Who Achieve Results

Industry:

Fortune 500 Equipment Manufacturer

Engagement Type:

Cohort-Based Leadership Development | Executive Coaching

The Situation

The world leaders operate in today is not the one they were trained for. Rapid change, relentless complexity, and the pressure to deliver results across a global economy have created leadership challenges that skills training alone cannot solve. This Fortune 500 equipment manufacturer knew that and came to Emerge ready to do something about it.

The Challenge

The organization faced two interconnected pressures. First, the pace and complexity of the business was outpacing their leaders’ capacity to respond. These were not skills gaps, they were capacity gaps: the ability to lead through ambiguity, hold competing priorities, and stay grounded under sustained pressure.

Second, leaders across functions were operating in silos. Capable people were optimizing for their own areas without a clear focus on the whole. The friction had a cost: slower decisions, duplicated effort, and missed opportunity.

The Journey

Emerge designed and facilitates a nine-month cohort-based leadership development program that blends two kinds of development. Horizontal development adds skills and frameworks. Vertical development expands how a leader thinks surfacing the beliefs and patterns that drive behavior, building the ability to hold complexity, and helping leaders act from values rather than react to pressure. This program leans deliberately toward the vertical, because what a leader knows becomes largely irrelevant without the capacity to navigate today’s complexity.

The same cross-functional group of leaders comes together over nine months, combining group learning with individual coaching. As participants do honest developmental work alongside each other, something emerges that no curriculum can manufacture: trust. That trust is not just a program outcome, it’s a business advantage.

“The network we created enables efficiency, collaboration, and deeply rooted trust and that creates infinite opportunity in productivity, innovation, and profit.”  — Program Participant

Meaningful Results

Stronger Leaders: Participants consistently report meaningful growth in self-awareness, leadership effectiveness, feedback fluency, composure under pressure, and systems thinking.

Stronger Relationships: Leaders who previously worked around each other began working with each other. Cross-functional friction decreased. Decisions that once required escalation got made through direct relationships built through the program.

Stronger Organization: One participant described resource reallocations that came directly out of cohort conversations that reduced costs, improved operational efficiency, and improved the customer experience.

Key Outcomes

•        Program now in its 7th cohort

•        Creation of an Alumni program and peer coaching community resulting from participant demand to “keep the work alive”

•        100% of graduates would recommend it to a colleague

•        100% said it was a worthwhile investment of their time

•        100% said it was a worthwhile investment for the organization

What Emerged

More than a leadership program, this work created a network of leaders who think differently, communicate more openly, and collaborate more effectively. As those leaders return to their teams and functions, they carry forward a culture of greater trust, connection, and shared accountability. The organization moves differently because its leaders do. That is what it looks like when development goes deep enough to actually change things.
